Different Types of Fillings and restorations

Nowadays, thanks to advances in dental techniques and materials, patients have a wider range of choices when they need to repair worn, damaged or decayed teeth, or if they need to replace missing teeth.

Materials such as ceramics and acrylic polymers look more like natural teeth and help dentists create pleasing, natural-looking smiles.

Older materials such as gold and metal alloys are still used occasionally, but our office always plans for cosmetic, non-metallic first. Dental amalgam is not used in our office. Though it is extremely durable, it can be related to tooth fractures in cases involving large, old amalgams. Today’s patients generally demand tooth-colored, cosmetic fillings and crowns. We use only the strongest cosmetic materials for our patient care.

The choice of the best option depends on many factors, including a patient’s general and oral health, how the filling can be placed and the appointment time necessary.

Discuss your options with your dentist!
